Maintain your credential

You've finally passed your RBT® and now you're telling yourself, "Ah! I'm done!" Well, not exactly. Don't forget, you have to maintain your credential to continue working in this field.

There are a few things to remember:

  1. Annual Review: From the time you pass your exam, you have 1 year that your credential is valid. You are then responsible to ask your supervisor for a renewal. You may submit a renal competency assessment 45 days prior to your credential expiring. Do not wait until the last minute to do this! On average it takes 2-4 weeks to get recertified.

  2. Ongoing Supervision: Communicate with your supervisor and make sure you have at least one verified supervisor from each company you work with registered on your portal. Again, this is your responsibility, unless you send and email or have a phone call, you supervisor may not know if they need to sign you on. Always, always talk to your supervisor!

  3. Self-Reporting: In case of an audit, you are requested to show proof that you have been supervised for a minimum of 5% each month of any behavior analytic services you provide. Under resources you will find a handy sheet you can fill out. It is always best practice to fill it out at the end of the month and send it off to your supervisor to sign.

Remember, your credential is your ticket to show your knowledge and experience to work in this field. Be sure to maintain it.
